Sally Roper is a writer, tourism development consultant and entrepreneur. Born and schooled in Zimbabwe, Sally holds a degree in English Literature and Cultural History from the University of Cape Town, as well as UK-based industrial qualifications in tourism and post-graduate journalism. Sally has lived and worked in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and currently resides in Johannesburg, South Africa, where her key focus, both in terms of writing but also development work, has been on South Africa’s political transition and post-apartheid upliftment.
As a writer, Sally has a wide ranging interest and has produced in-depth feature articles on many topics from politics, business and current affairs, to women’s interest, heritage, travel, health and the arts for periodicals and newspapers in Asia, the UK and South Africa.
As a tourism development consultant Sally has worked for all three levels of government in the post-apartheid dispensation: i.e. for national, provincial and local government.
As an entrepreneur, Sally has used her tourism training and industry experience to develop and operate a small Johannesburg-based guesthouse, whilst continuing to consult and write for private clients. She has also developed a bespoke line of heritage-focused travel guides which are currently undergoing a re-design and re-launch.
